The number of children who died due to kidney disease in Indonesia has reached 133.
The Indonesian Ministry of Health has said in a statement that 241 cases of kidney disease in children have been reported so far, of which 133 children have died due to the disease.
Indonesia banned all cough syrups and all liquid cough medicines after the deaths of the children yesterday.
According to the authorities, some cough syrups have been found to contain harmful and toxic ingredients.
The ban in Indonesia follows an ongoing alert from the World Health Organization, which suspects that the deaths of 70 children in the African country of Gambia are linked to cough syrup imported from India.
