Punjab: Fear of increase in pneumonia cases

Due to the severe cold wave, the number of pneumonia cases in Punjab province is expected to increase.
According to Dr Haroon, DG Health, Punjab, 93,495 people have been infected with pneumonia in Punjab, while 530 patients have died of pneumonia.
He said that children under 5 years of age are more affected by pneumonia, adding that pneumonia is also a major cause of death in children under 5 years of age.
DG Health Punjab also says to protect children from cold, dust, fog and smoke in this season.
According to Punjab Health Secretary Saleha Saeed, treatment facilities for children suffering from pneumonia are complete in the children’s wards of hospitals.
He added that oxygen, pulse oximeters and antibiotics were available in the hospitals.
Punjab Health Secretary Saleha Saeed also said that the immunization course also includes pneumonia vaccine.
