Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has challenged the appointment of Director General (DG) Anti-Corruption Punjab Sohail Zafar Chatta in the Lahore High Court.
Justice Muzamil Akhtar heard the petition of Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asad Umar.
In Asad Umar’s request, caretaker government of Punjab, Chief Secretary, Election Commission, DG Anti-Corruption and others were made parties.
The petitioner’s counsel has taken the stand that the caretaker government’s job is to conduct transparent elections, not appointments and transfers, however, grade 19 officer Sohail Zafar Chatta has been posted to grade 20 post.
It has been requested in the petition that the court declares the action of appointment of DG Anti-Corruption null and void.
Law officer Haroon Mir said that the caretaker government has the authority to appoint and transfer, the application is not admissible.
The petitioner’s counsel said that the petition is maintainable, the junior officer has been posted to the senior post.
Law officer Haroon Mir said that the larger bench is hearing similar applications, this case should be transferred here.
The court sent the file to the Chief Justice to transfer the case to a larger bench for hearing.
