Former Indian cricket team fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar has revealed that the then head coach Ravi Shastri was angry with Mohammad Shami eating mutton kadhai in the dressing room.
The former fielding coach has written an interesting anecdote motivating the player in his book ‘Coachnik Beyond: My Days with Indian Cricket Team’.
R Sridhar wrote in the book that in the last Test match of the 2018 tour of South Africa, when the home team was in a winning position, during the lunch break on the last day, Mohammad Shami was eating mutton kadai when Ravi Shastri attacked him.
He wrote that while Muhammad Shami was eating in the dressing room, he filled his plate with rice and mutton kadhai. Seeing the plate, the head coach started running and said ‘Bloody hell, are you going to satisfy all your hunger here or save to take some wickets?’
R. Sridhar wrote Muhammad Shami’s reply that “Muhammad Shami said, ‘Yes, yes, I will eat here and I will eat there too.'”
He wrote that ‘before lunch Shami had taken just one wicket, the day ended with India winning by 63 runs with Mohammad Shami taking five wickets for 28 runs in the last innings.
