Lahore: Environmental emergency imposed to reduce smog

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has announced to implement environmental emergency to reduce smog in Lahore and other cities.

The Chief Minister of Punjab has declared smog as a disaster in his statement and has banned the burning of crop residues across Punjab.

He said that the officers of the Department of Environmental Protection, Transport, Industries and Administration should go to the field themselves and take action to control the factors that cause smog.

The Chief Minister of Punjab says that negligence will not be tolerated in implementing the ongoing SOPs to reduce smog, indiscriminate action will be taken against those who set fire to crop residues.

Apart from this, the Punjab Chief Minister said that legal action should be continued against smoke-emitting vehicles. The anti-smog squad should regularly check smog-emitting vehicles in the city. Transition of all brick kilns to zigzag technology should be ensured.

It should be noted that among the most polluted cities in the world, Lahore continues to be at the first place, due to which colds, colds, chest infections, fever and respiratory diseases spread rapidly among children and adults.
