European Foreign Affairs chief Josep Borrell and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have met in the United Arab Emirates.
The meeting took place during the Sarbani Yas Forum 2022 held in the United Arab Emirates, where European Union Deputy Secretary General Enrique Mora and Pakistan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar were also present.
According to Josep Borrell’s tweet, in this meeting, he expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on behalf of the European Union after the devastating floods.
Regarding the topics discussed in the meeting, Josep Borel said that we, the European Union, work on promoting trade with Pakistan, dealing with challenges related to migration, international order with rules and regional issues and security.
On the other hand, according to the information coming from the diplomatic sources of Pakistan, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar met the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell and the Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs in the European External Action Service. Have met with Enrique Mora.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction over the multifaceted relations between Pakistan and the European Union, which have grown stronger over time.
He said that the recent discussions between the two sides, including the holding of a joint commission in Islamabad last month and the visit of members of the European Parliament this week, have maintained a positive momentum in bilateral relations.
Bilawal Bhutto also appreciated the humanitarian aid of 133 million Euros to Pakistan from the European Union and its member states after the recent climate flood disaster.
He apprised the High Representative of the European Union about the major problems faced by Pakistan in relation to rehabilitation and reconstruction works.
The Foreign Minister called upon the international community to rise to the occasion and ensure environmental justice for Pakistan. On this occasion, the European High Representative has assured the Foreign Minister of full cooperation in dealing with the difficult challenge.
According to Pakistani diplomatic sources, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the High Representative of the European Union also discussed GSP Plus and said that it is a scheme that is mutually beneficial for Pakistan and the European Union.
The Foreign Minister hoped that Pakistan and the European Union would continue to benefit from this in the future.
According to sources, the High Representative appreciated Pakistan’s progress in implementing international conventions that are part of the GSP Plus scheme.
In the meeting, the Foreign Minister urged the High Representative that the European Union should remove Pakistan from the list of countries with strategic flaws in their governments as soon as possible.
According to the sources, the High Representative of the European Union appreciated the significant progress in the implementation of 2 action plans of FATF and assured Foreign Minister Bilawal that the European Union will delist Pakistan soon.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen the relationship between Pakistan and the European Union and to remain connected with the established institutional mechanisms.
