The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AMND) has condemned the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA)’s ban on telecasting Imran Khan’s speeches and press conferences, calling it alarming and a ban on expression.

In his statement, Amand said that the Constitution of Pakistan provides every individual with the full right to express his opinion, but there are formal rules and regulations and limits and restrictions in this regard.

According to Amand, the complainant has legal rights in case of violation of these rules and regulations, harassment, baseless accusations and others.

The statement said that Amand believes that the right to express opinion cannot be denied under any guise.

The association said that even if there is a complaint of lack of delay mechanism or editorial committee in respect of a channel, the ban cannot be applied collectively instead of individual channel.

Amand added in the statement that all the legal aspects are being reviewed in this regard and the process of consultation with other journalistic organizations has also been started on this matter.
